1 dead in Yonkers Bronx River Parkway crash

YONKERS – One person was killed in a single-car crash on the Bronx River Parkway Sunday, according to Westchester County Police.

One person was killed in a car carsh on the Bronx River Parkway on January 4, 2015.

The accident happened around 11 a.m. in the southbound lane of the Bronx River Parkway at Exit 11W near the Cross County Parkway. Police have not released the name of the driver. No other vehicle was involved.

One passerby said the car, a silver, four-door sedan, appeared to have hit the side of the concrete overpass and spun around. It came to rest on top of the the metal barrier on the shoulder.

As a result, the center and right southbound lanes were shut down for more than five hours for the cleanup and investigation. At one point, traffic was backed up for approximately 40 minutes on the Sprain Brook.

The speed limit near that portion of the Bronx River is 45 mph. The investigation is ongoing.
