IRVINGTON – A man died from severe injuries after being ejected from a car during a two-vehicle collision Sunday morning on the Saw Mill River Parkway, police said.

Saw Mill Parkway road sign.

The dead driver's Mazda and a Toyota collided southbound near Mountain Road and the I-87 interchange on the winding two-lane parkway around 11 a.m., police said.

Police had not yet identified the driver, Westchester County Police Lt. James Genesi said. There were no other injuries reported.

The department's accident reconstruction team was investigating the cause of the crash, which closed the parkway south at Route 119 in Elmsford for hours, Genesi said.

Police left the scene and the road reopened at about 3:30 p.m.

After the crash, police turned around more than 100 cars on the southbound lanes and detoured them off the parkway, police said.
