Man dies after falling behind Mamaroneck church in freezing cold

Police are investigating the discovery of a body found behind Saints John and Paul church early Sunday

MAMARONECK - The body of an elderly man discovered early Sunday morning behind Saints John and Paul church was identified as Henry Malgrande.

According to Westchester Medical Examiner's Office, Malgrande, 85, of 758 Forest Ave., died from skull fractures that he suffered when he fell behind the church Sunday morning. He also had hypothermia due to the below-freezing temperature.

The body of Malgrande was discovered after 7 a.m. behind the church at 280 Weaver St., in the town of Mamaroneck, just north of Larchmont village, Mamaroneck town police said.

Police said the death was not considered suspicious.

Saints John and Paul is a Roman Catholic church and school that serves grades kindergarten through the 8th grade.
