NYPD Officer Jarmarie Flowers, 25, was involved in a dispute outside the Carrington Arms complex at 33 Lincoln Ave. in New Rochelle, police said. He was charged with felony reckless endangerment after he was accused of firing his gun.

NEW ROCHELLE – An off-duty NYPD officer was charged with reckless endangerment after he was accused of firing his gun during an argument outside a New Rochelle apartment building early Saturday, police said.

The officer, Jarmarie Flowers, 25, was involved in a dispute outside the Carrington Arms complex at 33 Lincoln Ave. around 1:15 a.m., police said. He was accused of pulling out his semiautomatic handgun and firing several rounds in the air, police said.

No one was injured, and no property was damaged, police said. Flowers was arrested at his apartment shortly afterward and charged with first-degree reckless endangerment, a felony.

Flowers was arraigned Saturday morning and taken to Westchester County jail. Bail was set at $10,000.

A spokesperson for the NYPD said Flowers, a three-year veteran stationed in the Bronx, has been suspended.

On Sunday, several Carrington Arms residents who declined to give their names said this isn't the first time they've heard gunshots outside their windows. The 11-story, brown-brick building sits in mixed-income neighborhood a few blocks from City Hall, shrouded in mesh netting and scaffolding.

City resident Jeffrey Charles, 65, said he knew Flowers and his family.

"He's a nice young man, very personable," said Charles, who formerly owned a liquor store on Lincoln Avenue. "I can't imagine what precipitated him shooting up in the air. He should've known better."

Saturday's shooting was the second in less than a week to involve an off-duty New York Police Department officer in Westchester County.

On Tuesday, Officer Brendan Cronin allegedly shot a man six times in Pelham. Cronin, 27, a six-year police veteran who works in the 46th Precinct in the Bronx, faces a felony assault charge.
