The White Plains attorney who taunted Republican lieutenant-governor candidate Christopher Moss in a racist tweet on election night eve has resigned from a leadership post at the New York City Bar Association.

Andrew Barovick, a Democratic supporter, tweeted, "In light of election loss, (Moss) mulling offers to be new spokesmodel for either Cream of Wheat or Uncle Ben's rice."

Moss, an African-American, is the sheriff of upstate Chemung County.

Barovick's tweet resulted in a furious backlash. On Nov. 5, the day after the election, a group called Westchester Citizens Against Racism headed by Richard St. Paul, a New Rochelle attorney, demanded that Barovick be removed from any professional leadership positions he might hold.

He was chairman of bar association's Medical Malpractice Committee. He resigned Tuesday.

Barovick decline to comment further Wednesday morning.

Bill O'Reilly, a spokeman for the St. Paul's organization, said they would not pursue the matter further.

"His resignation is belated but sufficient," O'Reilly said. "Time to move on."

He added: "This group plans to stay together to defend black Republicans against racist attacks. It happens all the time."

Here's what Barovick tweeted eight minutes after his initial tweet in respsonse to a critic from the Astorino campaign.

And here's Barovick's apology tweet about two hours later.
