Body found in New Castle believed to be missing Armonk man

A body found in New Castle's Glazier Preserve on Thursday is believed to be that of an Armonk man missing since Monday.

Miles Applebaum, a student at Temple University, was last seen leaving his home at 9:50 a.m. Monday in a green Volvo.

The car was discovered in a parking lot off Whippoorwill Road near the 44-acre park on Wednesday evening, leading authorities to conduct further searches of the area.

About 6 p.m. Thursday, a body was discovered in the park by forest ranger with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, according to a statement released by New Castle police late Thursday night.

While authorities believe the remains belong to the 21-year-old, no definitive identification had been made as of Friday morning. Police also did not release a cause of death Thursday and said they are awaiting an autopsy report from the Westchester County Medical Examiner's Office.

Since Applebaum's disappearance, thousands of people have shared details of the case on Facebook and across social media.

Several local agencies aided New Castle in the search throughout the week, including North Castle police, the Chappaqua Fire Department, Westchester County Department of Public Safety, New York State Police, New York State Park Police.

Because of the rough terrain of the park, technical search and rescue, K-9 and aviation units all were utilized.
