BRIARCLIFF – An Ossining man has been charged with drunken driving after a wrong-way crash on Route 9A that sent one person to the hospital late Friday night.

The crash in Briarcliff occurred the same day that a New York City police detective from Hartsdale was killed in a wrong-way crash on the Sprain Brook Parkway in Greenburgh.

Numerous drivers called 911 just after 10:30 p.m. Friday to report that a car was traveling north in the south lane of Route 9A near the entrance to the Taconic Parkway, according to Briarcliff police.

The car, a Chevy Tahoe, crashed into another vehicle near the Taconic entrance. Investigators said the driver, Neil Prabhu, 39, of Ossining, got on the roadway at Route 117 and drove the wrong way for about a mile and a half.

One person was taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, police said.

Prabhu was charged with a misdemeanor count of driving while intoxicated and issued tickets for traffic violations.

He was released on $100 bail.

Earlier Friday, Paul Duncan, 46, a New York Police Department detective, was killed when a car driven by Efren Moreano, 20, of Yonkers was traveling north in the south lanes of the Sprain Brook, just south of Route 100B.

Moreano survived the crash and was taken to Westchester Medical Center, where he is in a medically induced coma.
