A fan displays a sign for Derek Jeter during the game against the Cincinnati Reds at Yankee Stadium on Sunday.

NEW YORK – It will be one of those special days at Yankee Stadium, Sept. 7, a Sunday when the Yankees face Kansas City but only after their retiring Captain is honored in a ceremony — Derek Jeter Day.

The Yankees released a statement Sunday to counter a claim in a published report that they're jacking up ticket prices for the game. The team said in the statement that it wanted "to clarify any misperceptions or inaccuracies" in the newspaper article.

"The New York Yankees have not, did not, and will not raise any ticket prices for the game to be played in Yankee Stadium on September 7, or for that matter, any other game to be played at Yankee Stadium this season. The statement that '(t)he team hiked the cheapest tickets on its Web site a stunning 1,250 percent — from $16 to $250 … ' is absolutely and categorically untrue.

"The story confuses the primary ticket market with the secondary ticket market. That is, tickets that are being sold by fans who already purchased the tickets," the statement said. "There are numerous resale markets including StubHub, Craigslist, Yankees Ticket Exchange, and VividSeats, where fans and brokers post tickets to be resold."

The article reported that tickets on the resale market are going for as much as $9,999.

Beltran update: Carlos Beltran hasn't experienced life in right field since May 11, thanks to the bone spur in his right elbow. But in order for him to get out there again instead of experiencing life exclusively as a designated hitter, he will have to start throwing again.

"We've talked about that," manager Joe Girardi said before Beltran made his 40th start as the DH in the Yankees' series-closing 3-2 win over the Reds at Yankee Stadium. "That could probably start happening pretty soon here."

The 37-year-old switch-hitter has opened in right just 23 times this season.

Pineda watch: Michael Pineda has thrown one live batting-practice session, and Girardi said another should be coming in his comeback attempt from the muscle strain near his right shoulder.

"And then you might start seeing him, in a sense, throw a couple of innings, three innings, that sort of thing, depending on how that goes," Girardi said.

"Sometimes we like to do (simulated) games because it's easier to build them up. It's more controlled."

Barring any more setbacks, the Yankees are hoping to have Pineda back in the rotation sometime in August.

Extra bases: The Yankees finished interleague play at 13-7. … Ichiro Suzuki singled after 18 straight hitless at-bats and ended up 1 for 4.
