NEW ROCHELLE - Visitors to the city's downtown and Monroe College students will have their book and coffee fix this fall with the addition of Barnes & Noble and Starbucks in New Roc City.

Monroe College will be opening a Barnes & Noble and Starbucks in New Roc City in the space that previously occupied it's former bookstore. The store, seen at left Aug. 4, 2016, will open this fall.

The 9,000-square-foot bookstore and coffee shop will replace the existing student bookstore — also operated by Barnes & Noble, according to a news release from the college. The old bookstore, at 456 Main St., will remain open until construction of the new location, off Lecount Place, is complete.

The old bookstore, at 456 Main St., will remain open until construction of the new location, off Lecount Place, is complete.

In addition to selling Monroe College gear and school supplies, the new space will have outdoor seating in the courtyard and a community events area for the general public.

“Once completed, our expanded new bookstore will be a vibrant community space that, in addition to serving our students’ textbook needs, will offer local residents a place to pick up a bestseller, meet over coffee, and even occasionally enjoy the talents of local artists and performers,” Marc Jerome, executive vice president of Monroe College, said in a statement.

Jamie Kopchynski, a rising senior at Monroe, said she heard about the new location during a book club meeting in the old location.

"It's good that it's going to be bigger," she said. "A huge area would allow for more people to come."

Didre Terrell, a rising sophomore, was making a purchase at the Main Street store Tuesday, and said she's passed by the new location.

"It looks nice from the outside," she said. "But I haven't seen what it will look like on the inside yet."

Barnes & Noble College, the company's division for colleges and universities, serves 751 campuses nationwide, including on one of Monroe's other campuses in the Bronx.
