YORKTOWN - Divers have recovered the body of Darrin Dyckoff, who went missing in Sparkle Lake on Monday.

The 28-year-old Amawalk resident was seen floating on an inflatable raft before crying out for help and disappearing in the water shortly after 2 p.m. Monday.

MISSING: Man disappears in Yorktown's Sparkle Lake

Divers from the Yorktown Heights and Mahopac Falls fire departments had combed the lake off Granite Springs Road into the evening on Monday and resumed the search along with state police this morning.

Yorktown Heights Fire Chief Tim Mentrasti said his department and the Mahopac Falls department made 22 dives on Monday in search of the body and also used sonar technology in the search. A state police dive team provided additional help on Tuesday, using different sonar technology.

Mentrasti referred further questions to Yorktown police, who said in a statement that Dyckoff's body was recovered at about 9:50 a.m. by the New York State Police Underwater Recovery Team.

Stephen Reid said he was barbecuing with his family on the beach Monday when he saw the man floating across the lake. Reid, 45, said two other people on shore heard the man scream, "Help, I can't swim!'

Reid said he didn't hear the man's cries for help, but he saw the unoccupied raft and jumped into the water. He climbed into the raft and paddled around the lake searching for the man, he said.

There was no lifeguard on duty, and signs at the town beach indicated that the beach was closed and no swimming was allowed.

According to his LinkedIn profile, Dyckoff was a 2006 Yorktown High graduate who also attended Westchester Community College.
