CHAPPAQUA - The Clintons now have a compound, more than doubling the size of their Chappaqua empire by acquiring the property next door.

According to land records, Hillary and Bill Clinton spent $1.16 million on Aug. 11 to buy the 3,631-square-foot, ranch-style house next to their current home at the end of the cul-de-sac on Old House Lane. The adjoining 1.51-acre property was previously owned by Charles Chepigin.

"Neighbors are 100 percent happy," said Roni Jacobson, who has lived on Old House Lane since 1984. Referring to reports it would be used as a getaway home for the couple's daughter and her family, he said: "It's a perfect house for (their daughter) Chelsea. Perfect mother-daughter situation. The neighbors are delighted for them."

According to the real estate listing, the home consists of three bedrooms and four baths "with an open floor plan, pecan wood floors throughout, modern chef's kitchen with Viking, Subzero and Asko appliances (that) opens to an eating area with a fireplace and the family room, all with built-in cabinetry." The master suite has a recently redone bathroom with two walk-in closets.

The Clintons bought their current five-bedroom, full-bath home at 15 Old House Lane for $1.7 million in 1999, and later made several hundred thousand dollars in improvements to the property according to land and building records. The 5,232-square-foot home sits on 1.1 acres. Chelsea Clinton lives in Manhattan with her husband and two children.

Jacobson said the Clintons have been "perfect neighbors" since they moved to the street in 1999.

"We think they're wonderful neighbors," she said, adding that there have not been any issues since the road was closed in August to everyone except locals.

"The police and the Secret Service have it in perfect control," Jacobson said.
