Football rankings: Big win moves Clarkstown South into Top 10

1. Stepinac (5-0) — The Crusaders host a rematch of the last two CHSFL AAA championships on Saturday. Cardinal Hayes, last year's winner, fell to St. Anthony's last week, so Stepinac looks like the favorite. Next up: vs. Cardinal Hayes, Saturday at 1:30 p.m.

2. New Rochelle (6-0) — It's a pretty simple formula for the Huguenots this year: If they block well, they will win. Next up: vs. No. 15 Ketcham, Saturday at 1:30 p.m.

3. Iona Prep (3-2) — With his receivers back to health, Derek Robertson has started to really shine. The junior went 33 for 45 for 433 yards and five touchdowns in Sunday's 45-21 win over Chaminade. Next up: vs. Monsignor Farrell, Saturday at 1:30 p.m.

4. Yorktown (6-0) — Last week's 31-7 victory over Lourdes was Yorktown's most dominant of the season considering the competition. Next up: vs. No. 16 Lakeland, Friday at 7 p.m.

5. John Jay (6-0) — If the seeds hold after this week's qualifying round, John Jay will host a rematch with Somers in the quarterfinals. If so, John Jay will still hold the advantage even though Somers is the defending champ. Next up: vs. No. 14 Eastchester, Friday at 6:30 p.m.

6. Arlington (5-1) — For the second straight year, the Admirals have earned the right to be considered the Class AA team most likely to challenge New Rochelle. It may have only been injury that prevented them from doing so a year ago. Next up: vs. No. 16 Ossining, Friday at 6 p.m.

7. Carmel (5-1) — The Rams have a very tough road in the playoffs, beginning this week against Mamaroneck. Remember: They lost this game two years ago to a winless Mamaroneck team. Next up: vs. No. 13 Mamaroneck, Friday at 7 p.m.

8. Scarsdale (5-1) — If the seeds hold in this week's Class AA qualifying round, Scarsdale would have to return to the site of last year's impressive semifinal win at John Jay-East Fishkill for the quarterfinals. Next up: vs. No. 11 Suffern, Friday at 7 p.m.

9. Clarkstown South (4-2) —The Vikings rejoined the Top 10 after last week's showing, which was made all the more impressive by their strengths in all three phases. South can run, pass and play defense, but the team is also very strong in the kicking game. Next up: vs. No. 12 Fox Lane, Friday at 7 p.m.

10. Rye (4-2) — It's close, but Rye gets the edge over Somers and Lourdes right now because of how well it has played the last few weeks. The Garnets looks like a real threat in the Class A tournament. Next up: vs. No. 12 Nyack, Friday at 7 p.m.
