BEDFORD - A former Bedford Hills correction officer will spend time in prison for sexually assaulting a female inmate last March.

Jeffrey Green, 48, was sentenced Tuesday to nine months in federal prison and a year of supervised release after pleading guilty in May, said Joon Kim, the Acting United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York.

"Incarcerated individuals, repaying their debt to society, are entitled to the same protections of the Constitution as the rest of us," Kim said in a statement. "For violating an inmate’s constitutional rights, Green will serve time in prison himself.”

Green unlocked and opened the cell of an unnamed victim last March and grabbed her by the arms, held her with her back against the wall and began to lick, kiss and bite her neck and fondle her chest, Kim said.

When the victim fought back, Green pushed her against the wall, forced himself on her, pulled up her shirt and bra and fondled her. He stopped and left when he was interrupted by the arrival of another correction officer, Kim said.
