The man has no known connection to Scarsdale, police said.

Staff reports

SCARSDALE - Police say a man who walked into their station last week is now under arrest in connection with a fatal shooting five years ago in Georgia.

Investigators said the 37-year-old Georgia resident came to the station around 9:10 a.m. on Friday and confessed to the crime..

Scarsdale police did not release the man's name, citing the ongoing investigation. But according to Westchester County Jail records, Kwayne Dozier, also known as Kwame Dozier, 37, was arrested by Scarsdale police on Friday on a fugitive from justice charge and remains in custody there.

Scarsdale police contacted the Roswell Police Department in Georgia and verified the details of the man's story. Roswell police then obtained an arrest warrant that led to the man being held as a fugitive from justice at the Westchester County Jail. Roswell police have since traveled to New York to interview the man as well in connection with the January 2012 homicide.

Kwayne Dozier is being held as a fugitive from justice after his arrest by Scarsdale police.

Scarsdale Police Capt. Thomas Altizio said the man had no known connection to Scarsdale, but may have been staying in the Mount Vernon area.

"He just showed up here," Alitizio said. "He said he had something to tell us, so we sat down and had an extended interview with him. Then we tried to corroborate what he said with the Georgia police department."

Police in Roswell, Georgia, could not immediately provide more information on the 2012 incident or the recent developments in the case.
