Man, 20, killed on I-95 in Mamaroneck while changing tire

The person was struck near Exit 18B.

MAMARONECK - A 20-year-old Queens man was killed by a hit-and-run tandem tractor-trailer early Monday on Interstate 95 as he changed a tire, state police said.

Maicol Encarnacion Garcia of Richmond Hill was outside a tan Volkswagen Tiguan stopped southbound near Exit 18B for Mamaroneck Avenue at 12:42 a.m. when he was struck by the tractor-trailer that was described as towing two trailers, police said.  Garcia was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Lanes were closed overnight as police investigated, but all lanes were reopened around 6 a.m.

Police are looking for the tractor-trailer. Police ask anyone was saw the incident to call the Bureau of Criminal Investigation in Hawthorne confidentially at 914-769-2600.
