STONY POINT - Five animal carcasses, believed to be dogs, and 21 Huskies in various stages of health were found inside and outside a Stony Point home Thursday.

The house at 13 Chestnut St. was in "squalid conditions, including urine and fecal-covered floors and conditions not safe or suitable for dogs," Stony Point police said in a statement.

The five animal carcasses were found in trash bags and garbage cans inside and outside the home, police said.

More than 20 live Huskies and five animal carcasses, believed to be dogs, were found inside this home at 13 Chestnut St. in Stony Point.

A Humane Society agent smelled and saw the conditions a few days earlier and found two dogs that were tied to together in the backyard and couldn't get to their water, said Marc Kissel, chief of the agency's law enforcement department.

“It was horrendous," Kissel said. "It just smelled, the dead animals smelled. A lot of the dogs needed medical treatment. Try to imagine 21 dogs on the first floor of a high ranch."

After the agent's discovery, the Hudson Valley Humane Society and Stony Point police got a search warrant and executed it Thursday morning.

The Humane Society is continuing the investigation of the homeowner, Jerome Adler, 75, who Kissel said would locate dogs throughout Rockland Country and adopt them. Only his wife was home when law enforcement searched the house.

Point police said numerous misdemeanor charges and violations were pending.

The house has been deemed unsafe and was condemned, and the utilities were shut off until "numerous" health and building code violations can be addressed, police said.

Kissel thanked Stony Point police for supporting the operation.
