RAMAPO - Rem Louis, an off-duty cab driver who was shot in Hillcrest last Monday, has died. He was 23.

ARREST: Attempted murder arrest in cabbie's shooting in Hillcrest

Ramapo Police Brad Weidel holds a press conference at Ramapo Police Headquarters in Suffern on Thursday, July 20, 2017, July 20, 2017, about the shooting of Rem Louis, a 23-year old cab driver, in Hillcrest on Monday.

Louis was using his cab for personal use when a white 2004 Toyota Camry pulled up alongside the driver's side door and fired at least once, hitting Louis in the head. Louis' car then crashed into a tree, police said.

This white Camry has been identified as the vehicle from which Rem Louis was shot.

One of the men in the car, Hakeem Gentles, was arrested and charged with second-degree attempted murder and first-degree assault, both felonies.

Police have some working theories but haven't uncovered a motive yet. They're still looking for other suspects and wouldn't say if they believed Gentles was the trigger man.

Hakeem Gentles of Spring Valley has been charged in connection with a cab driver's shooting in Hillcrest.
