Mamaroneck man accused of murdering Yonkers man

NEW YORK – A Mamaroneck man has been charged with murdering a Yonkers man with a shot to the head near a Bronx school, police said Thursday.

Dwayne Reid, 43, was accused of shooting Lamont Smith, 45, during the early morning hours Wednesday at 1170 E. 229th St. by the Edenwald public housing complex and P.S. 112, police said.

Smith was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders who arrived with police after being alerted to the shooting shortly after 9 a.m.

On Thursday, Reid was charged with second-degree murder, manslaughter, assault, second-degree aggravated manslaughter and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, all felonies.

Police did not say what sparked the shooting.
